New Firmware 7.2.1 for the Atari Eiffel Pico USB

Numerous additions for this version 7.2.1

A new firmware for the Atari Eiffel Pico USB is available which adds numerous bug fixes to the HD6301 emulation, optimizations to the Pi Pico code, an upgrade of the underlying structure, and much more extensive support for USB keyboards, mice and joysticks, including Logitech Unifying wireless mice, Microsoft Xbox and Sony PS4 gamepads thanks to the incredible work of Trickydee.

A splash screen and integrated languages

In addition, the Atari Eiffel Pico USB now boots to a splash screen, and gives the ability to change the language directly from the interface.

The keyboard LEDs now light up

Now, when a keyboard is connected, the "NumLock" LED lights up and serves as an indicator of the keyboard's operation. (The NumLock key is not active and does not turn off the LED).

In addition, the "Caps Lock" LED turns on and off when the caps lock key is pressed.

New keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts have been added:

System shortcuts:

  • Ctrl + F12: Enable USB mouse / Enable mouse on Joy0 port | Note: Replaces the Scroll Lock key
  • Ctrl + F11: Reset HD6301
  • Ctrl + F10: Toggles Joy1 between D-sub and USB
  • Ctrl + F9: Joy0 toggle between D-sub and USB

CPU speed shortcuts:

  • Alt + NumPad (+): Increases CPU speed to 250 MHz
  • Alt + NumPad (-): Decreases CPU speed to 150 MHz

Atari ST shortcuts:

  • Alt + /: Sends the INSERT key to the Arati ST
  • Alt + [: Sends the NumPad / (divide) key to the Atari ST
  • Alt + ]: Sends the NumPad * (multiply) key to the Atari ST

Updating the Atari Eiffel Pico USB

To update your Atari Eiffel Pico USB:

  1. Disconnect the USB-C cable that connects the Pi Pico to the Atari Eiffel,
  2. Connect the Pi Pico to a PC or Mac with a USB-C cable while holding down the BOOTSEL button on the Pi Pico (the white button to the right of the OLED screen),
  3. Release the BOOTSEL button when the Pi Pico opens like a USB stick.
  4. Drag the file atari_st_rpikb_v7.2.1.uf2 into the Pi Pico window.
  5. The window closes, the Pi Pico updates itself and restarts.
  6. Unplug the Pi Pico and reconnect the USB-C cable to the Atari Eiffel.
